Winter Reunion!
Time to start a yearly tradition!
Since I (Tom) have been at Windsor Mountain, I have seen many sessions, Fall reunions, work weekends and the odd staff gathering go by, with the sun and warm weather, the refreshing spring days and the beauty of the New Hampshire Autumn enjoyed by many but, what could arguably be called the most beautiful season on camp, mostly goes unappreciated. We couldn’t see another winter go by without having a group of campers join us to make the most of it and make the memories that will stick with them for a lifetime.
Martin Luther King weekend, 2015, proved to be just that. From the moment our campers were picked up from Manhattan, Boston and dropped off by their family at camp, the fun began. Joe Harari lead a group building an epic Igloo on the sports field, and Julie Tyson and Phil kicked off an epic sledding session that ventured from the bell tower or dance pavilion winding all the way to the beach at the now very frozen waterfront!
After enjoying everything that a snow covered camp had to offer on Saturday, we woke up early on Sunday to head down to our local ski mountain, Pats Peak for some tubing and skiing. A wonderful morning was had by all with some of our experience skiers exploring the mountain and others brushing off the cobwebs to hone their skills. Special mention to Romy Beckman for picking up skiing (first time since he was 2 years old!) in less than 90 minutes and going right ahead and tackling some blue and green runs.
Ben O., Isabelle Harari and Christy Hines created a wonderful atmosphere in the Community Building, filled with puzzles, board games, jokes and stories, while the wood stove was roaring campers were laughing and catching up on the last five months apart. Winter Camp could prove to be the gap between the long gaps between summers!
BIG shout to Fitz and Kerry who provided us with some wonderful family style meals during the weekend. Homemade lasagna on Saturday, cooked breakfast and Pizza with salad and chicken on Sunday followed by pancakes on Monday.
If you didn’t get the opportunity to come along to Winter Camp this year, mark your calendars for 2016 as the second year will surely be better than the first! In the mean time, start counting down the days until work weekend…
