Bring the Windsor Mountain camp spirit into your everyday life!
School is back in full swing, fall activities, sports and clubs are up and running, and summer 2026 is in the rearview mirror. As the weather gets colder and the leaves change, we all miss Windsor Mountain just a little bit more. We long for the days where the biggest decision may have been whether to take a risk and share your green moment at morning meeting or whether to go to the lake or the art deck during fun hour. As we get into the routine of the school year, it can be nice to bring a bit of the Windsor Mountain camp spirit into your everyday life at home. Here are a few ways that you can bring the bubble with you in your everyday world.
Shooting Stars: When you appreciate someone, why keep it to yourself? Share your appreciation with them. Even if it is just telling someone good job, complimenting the hoodie you like, you never know when someone may need something to brighten their day.
Green Moments: Keep an eye out for the nature around you. Even if you live in the city, you can still find beauty in nature. Whether it is a bird at the park, a cool leaf on the ground, a chipmunk in your bed, or the soothing sounds of a rainstorm. Connecting with nature is scientifically proven to boost dopamine and is just one more way to feel closer to Windsor Mountain.
KP: Chores! We all have to do them; why not make them fun? After mealtime with your family, pop on some tunes and have a kitchen party. While speaking with Fitz in the fall, he told me that when his family gathers, they still call cleaning up and doing the dishes KP. It’s a small way to bring camp home with you.
Nightly Ritual: Life can get busy! With school, work, practice, walking the dog, homework, cleaning up, cooking, running errands… do I need to keep going? It’s easy to forget all the wonderful things that happen through all this chaos. Taking a moment at the end of the day to reflect with your family and hear about each other’s days can be a special way to connect. It only takes 5 minutes. Share your rose (best part of the day), bud (looking forward to), and thorn (challenging part of the day). You can do this around the dinner table, in the car, in the living room while you’re relaxing, or just before you go to bed.
Responsible risks: Continue to take responsible risks! Do something that scares you; it will build your character. Some of the scariest, most nerve-racking moments have the most rewarding outcomes. Sit with someone new at lunch, try a new club or activity, go to that audition that you were thinking about, say “hi” to people in the hall. Even if you feel nervous to try something new, do it scared. Be brave and try something new; you never know, you could love it.
Be Kind: I think the best way to bring the bubble with you is to just be kind. Kindness is a superpower that will open-up opportunities for you for your whole life. Treat others how they want to be treated (hint-hint with kindness). Kindness is the foundation of the bubble; that’s why “be kind” is written on the back of the staff shirts. Make someone’s day better and know that by putting that positive energy out into the world, it will make its way back to you.
To wrap things up, while Summer 2026 is behind us, bring the Windsor Mountain bubble with you everywhere you go. When life gets busy, take a step back and find a way to bring joy to the moment. Whether it is doing KP after a family dinner or telling your friend something kind, make the little moments special and remember that the bubble is always with you.
