The Feeling of September at Windsor Mountain…
It’s been too long!
Life at camp has slowed down since the end of second session but, it is certainly still thriving! We have a small crew of dedicated staff members that have stayed on to work hard through the fall. After our campers leave, we host a number of schools from around New England to orientate their year by getting involved in a number of different ice breaker and team-building activities and of course, enjoying everything that Windsor Mountain has to offer! We thoroughly enjoyed the return of Fitz and his school, Fenn, who were here for a few days last week. Campfires under the stars, a few games of Gatorball and enjoying the lake during this warm September are just a couple of things that we loved! Today marks the final day of our school-group season with Hamden Hall departing this afternoon. We just had a talent (read variety) show morning meeting and it was amazing!
Windsor Mountain is also counting down the days until our Fall reunion (October 10-12!). There is something magical about a Windsor Mountain fall – The beautiful colors that majestically reflect in Black Pond, the roaring fireplace while people play guitar in the dining hall, apple picking, haunted houses and the chance to reconnect with old friends. What could be better? Let Jake ([email protected]) know if you are interested in coming along!
To get you in the mood for our fall reunion, I will quickly let you know that last night the sun perfect set over the rolling hills next to (actual) Windsor Mountain, with the glass-like water of the lake reflecting its bright orange rays back onto the main office building here at camp. As it is still warm, I can see a few staff members paddle boarding in the direction of the sun. Probably in search of the perfect view or the family of beavers hard at work in the marsh…
A couple of weeks ago, we had a bittersweet celebration here at camp. As many of you might already know, our facilities director, Bob Cleland, is retiring this year and we had a wonderful surprise send off celebration for him. Calling him in to report that one of our wells had broken, some friends from over his last 25 years at Windsor Mountain surprised him and proceeded to celebrate in a way that Windsor Mountain does best: Waterfront fun, group sing-alongs at the campfire and one of Helena’s famous three foot carrot cakes! We often talk about ‘Legends’ here at camp, but Bob rises high at the top of that list. Bob, we love you and thank you for all of your presence, guidance and friendship over the years.
We miss you all and hope to see you next month at Reunion.
