Happy Birthday, America!
Okay, here’s a question – What is the best way to celebrate our nation’s founding? Well, of course, it is to shoot exploding things into the sky and cheer joyfully! Yes, we had a most glorious 4th of July celebration here at camp.
We started with our classic Independence Day morning meeting where we told campers the timeless story of the United Kingdom deciding to leave the European Union and to join the United States as our 51st state, which of course, set off a worldwide dispute that was about to end in battle when aliens attacked Earth and all the countries around the world had no choice but to band together to defeat the aliens. It is a classic tale of cooperation, peace and redemption. (Whether the U.K. joins the U.S. as its 51st state is an open question – ).
Lunch on July 4th always is amazing. It is classic American Buffalo Chicken and fries (baked, of course) served family-style amidst our patriotically decorated Dining Hall.
Evening activity was our annual July 4th Carnival, complete with donut-eating on a string, pudding drop, pie-eating contest, face painting, dizzy bat race, giant Jenga, sponge toss and lots more.
The night culminated in a fantastic fireworks show accompanied by the Windsor Mountain rock band. It was the perfect end to a great day.
I hope you all had as much fun as we did!
