Leaders In Training (LIT)
Once our campers have reached the age of 15 or 16, they are given a choice. They can spend their last summer at camp as a regular camper or be an LIT. Our Leaders In Training (LITs) have increased opportunities to grow their leadership and activity skills through special programming and community service projects around camp.
In summer 2025, our wonderful LITs really made their mark on camp. Here are a few of the community projects that we saw last summer:
- Ping Pong Heroes- When they saw that ping pong balls kept rolling off the deck, they put up a mesh fence to block the balls from falling. That has been a real lifesaver for all of our ping pong lovers at camp.
- Mirrors- Anyone who has been to camp knows that it is no fashion show, but it is still nice to see how you look. LITs not only put up more mirrors around camps, but they also covered the borders of the mirrors with hand written words of affirmation. Role modeling kindness to our younger campers.
- The Fishing Doc- There is no feeling like quite like catching your first fish at camp. As the popularity of our fishing classes were rising, our old fishing doc was sinking. Our wonderful LITs saw this and stepped in. In the picture above, you can see a group of LITs carrying their very own, hand-built fishing dock down to the waterfront.
These acts of service not only showcase the care, compassion, and love that our LITs have for camp, but it teaches them valuable life lessons. These campers learn the value of hard work, dedication, and giving their best effort. With the help of our LIT counselors, these campers get to see their ideas and solutions come to life.
We are so proud of our LITs and appreciate all the care and love that they have put into Windsor Mountain. When they come back as counselors (which we hope that they do), they will get to see the long-standing effects of their efforts as an LIT. We cannot wait to see what the LITs of 2026 come up with.
